2025 has been an exciting year for the Fairbanks Fire Department. We have welcomed a new position called the Community Paramedic. This position was created with hopes to enhance healthcare by extending medical care into the home and community.
Please note---- we are not a replacement for 911 services. If you believe you are experiencing a medical emergency, you need to call 911.
At this time, we are only able to assist residents within the Fairbanks City limits.
Our Community Paramedic can assist patients in a wide variety of ways. Below are some examples of services we offer. If you have any questions about our other services, please call us.
- Slip/trip/fall assessments
- Assistance in set up for Telehealth appointments on a department issued iPad, or the patients personal device
- Conduct health evaluations and monitor chronic conditions from a patient's home
- Hospital discharge follow-up care
- Home health assessments
- Behavioral health support
- Support for individuals that face challenges with substance use
- Transitioning to the use of mobility aids
- Preventive care, including health education and disease management
The referral process is simple. You can include as little or as much information as you would like. The more information we have, the better we can serve the patient. We would like to at minimum have a name and contact information for the individual submitting the referral so we can reach out if there are any issues reaching the patient. The most important part of the referral process is including as much information as you have about the patient. Ideally, we need the patients name, address, phone number, medical concerns, and what services they could benefit from. If the individual is homeless and does not have a phone it is also helpful to include places and times during the day that you have met with them to assist us in locating them. Having all this information assists us in making sure we can do the proper follow up and ask the right questions to get the patient the resources they need.
